The Laws of Cricket serve as the backbone of the sport, and The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has been their guardian since 1787. While the International Cricket Council oversees cricket worldwide, it entrusts the MCC with the vital task of crafting and interpreting these laws, which apply universally, governing matches from local grassroots to the highest level of Test cricket.

In 2017, MCC introduced a significant update to the Laws, marking one of the most substantial revisions in nearly two decades. This revamped Code of Laws has since seen three iterations, with the latest edition set to be enforced from October 1, 2022, shaping the 2022-23 cricket season.
